We’re in the Smiles Business!
Making children smile is what we’re all about. You might have noticed a couple of our key ingredients; bright vibrant colors, positive uplifting themes and adding little things such as hermit crabs, starfish, messages in bottles, you know the type of things that set young and impressionable minds racing and excited for Adventure. A couple of ingredients that might not immediately be noticed is our books are filled with cultural and social diversity, different foods, plants and animals. Mon-Ki Keys inhabitants use only one measuring stick and that measuring stick is to measure someone by their character and not the way they look. Measuring people by their heart is one of the most important ingredients we can offer in the smile business. When we read Fishing for Bananas to a class or friends, one of the joys I personally receive is that there’s a character that every child can relate to. These same attributes will be seen throughout our entire series, bringing smiles with every page turned.
One of my favorite examples of seeing this magic ingredient at work, was in Croatia when my little girl was 6 years old. She was playing in a playground with the local children that was surrounded by orange trees. The children couldn’t speak each other’s language, but they measured each other by the smiles on their faces and warmness in their hearts. They didn’t stop playing until it was finally dark and time to go eat.
